Lockdown Lingo

Isolation. Quarantine. Facemasks. Curfew. Sanitiser. Words we never really used but now are part of our daily vocabulary. Many industries have been hard hit by the restrictions imposed, and we have certainly found that we're among the crowd that is feeling the effects of lockdown. Urban Roast had only been open for a few weeks when the level 5 ban fell over the nation like a dark cloud. Almost seven weeks later, we cautiously opened our doors again for takeaway but to be honest, it's not the same. We miss our customer. We miss the laughter that flowed through the restaurant like a gentle breeze and the smell of our famous BBQ sauce as the ribs sizzled on the grill. Your mouth watering yet?


As much as we miss these things, we know that the lockdown is the best thing for our country to curb the curve, but still a bitter pill to swallow. With all this supposed time on our hands, we experimented with some exciting things. No, we didn't join the TikTok craze, bake banana bread or make a mask from a pair of socks. Our experiments were more along the lines of delicious recipes to add to our Urban toolbox. One such recipe is our Asian-inspired calamari stir-fry, gently tossed in a black bean sauce and served on a bed of rice...the most delicious thing we've tried this entire lockdown, if we do say so ourselves!

So glad you guys are back in action! Can't wait to see the recipes you'll post. I've been trying out a couple of puddings so would be keen for advice on some of your desserts!
